Helping to provide you with a foundation to grow upon
New Learning Center, Inc. is a private, non-profit agency with the mission to serve women and girls whose lives have been shaped by poverty, abuse, instability, domestic violence and isolation. Such trauma often leaves women caught up in addiction, early pregnancy, depression, anxiety and hopelessness.
New Learning Center, its programs, and the philosophy that guides them are inspired by the real struggles of real women. Single mothers raising children on limited income living in uncertain and unsafe housing, with few resources for long-term solutions, often find themselves in repeated cycles of self-defeating patterns. Living reactively from crisis to crisis only keeps them a step ahead of the next problem.
We have learned that the range of options available to a woman is severely limited by the experience of trauma. Sexual violation and emotional exploitation are common experiences among women raised in chaos and instability. Society does not look kindly upon women who seem to lack the "drive" to lift themselves and their children out of poverty and stabilize their lives. We learned that traumatized women need healing and validation, encouragement and empowerment before they can find the courage to change multi-generational family history. Empowered women make strong mothers, who are the rich, nurturing soil in which children can put down strong roots that reach deep.
At New Learning Center we offer women a safe and stimulating community that is the foundation for healing and growth. Within this community we build awareness and teach skills in all areas of life that are directly affected by trauma and poor training for self-sufficiency.
